Abstract
The aim of this research was to obtain data and knowledge on the prevalence of sexual harassment in the workplace in Aruba in order to better protect and serve the working community of Aruba. Furthermore, this research attempted to investigate to what extent
having a policy mechanism in place affects the occurrence of sexual harassment in the workplace. For this reason, a quantitative research was conducted in order to measure the relationship between the variables gender, types of sexual harassment, policy mechanism and the reporting of sexual harassment in order to test the proposed hypotheses and answer the central research question. By using a questionnaire approach, data was collected among the working community of Aruba. Results show that women tend to be sexually harassed more often than men. Moreover, the most common form of sexual harassment experienced is the verbal form. This study indicates that there is a positive relationship between having an unclear policy and underreporting of sexual harassment.
