Abstract
This research analyzed the remuneration system of the public sector of Aruba, known as the ‘bezoldigingsregeling ambtenaren’.The objectives of this research were to thoroughly explain the remuneration system of the public sector of Aruba, the ‘bezoldigingsregeling ambtenaren’(BRA), and research the satisfaction level of public employees towards their remuneration system, and also give recommendations for adaptation to the BRA. The satisfaction level of the employees towards their remuneration system was researched with the help of the employees at the Department of Tax of Aruba (‘Departamento di Impuesto’). The significance of this research relies in the information provided for the ‘Departamento di Impuesto’ and also the Department of Human Resources (DRH) of the government. This research is a first step in gathering relevant information about the satisfaction level in relation with the remuneration system of the public sector, and to give advice on possible adaptation needed to reach a higher job satisfaction rate for the public employees of Aruba. This research contained a quantitative approach, the research design entailed a case study, and the tool used was a questionnaire. The respondents of this research were public employees, coming from the second largest public organization on Aruba, namely the Department of Tax (‘Departamento di Impuesto’).The data was analyzed through SPSS. The employees at the Department of Tax of Aruba are on average somewhat dissatisfied with their remuneration system, and are dissatisfied with their job, according to the results of the questionnaire that was handed in. However, the two main concepts, remuneration system satisfaction and job satisfaction, measured do not have an effect on each other for the employees of the Department of Tax according to the results of the questionnaire.
