Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine how female managers in the public sector in Aruba rate the quality of organizational support in relation to factors influencing their work- life balance and to determine the relationship between these factors and work - life balance (WLB). The main research question of this study was “How do female managers in the public sector rate the quality of organizational support in relation to the factors ‘work environment’, ‘family environment’, ‘friends and community group as part of their social support’, ‘mental well-being’ and ‘financial stability’, and how are these factors related to their work - life balance?” A quantitative research approach was used to measure the relationship between the five above-mentioned indicators and the concept of WLB. This research consisted of a self-administered questionnaire that was personally delivered by the researcher to the human resource department of several government departments. A purposive sampling was used consisting of female managers working in the public sector. The data obtained was processed and analyzed via IBM SPSS. The results of this research showed that the participants perceive that organizational policies contribute to achieve and maintain a good work life balance. Additionally, results of the study indicated that the participants perceived that work environment and friends and community group as part of their social support showed a direct positive relationship to achieving WLB. Further analysis showed that work environment has the strongest positive relationship with WLB. As for the factors family environment, mental wellbeing and financial stability, the female managers in the public sector that participated in this study do not perceive that these factors are related or contributes to achieve WLB.
