Abstract
This research focuses on exploring the organizational communication practices that exist within Setar N.V., specifically in the Human Resources department. This was done in order to establish how the internal communication is within the organization. The three main concepts in the research are HR and employee’s communication practices and the perception that employees have thereof. Because no previous research on HR communication practices has been done at Setar N.V., it was chosen to do an explorative research to determine what HR’s communication practices are and how employees perceive these. Seeing the research’s explorative nature, it was chosen to make use of a qualitative approach, which is used to capture data about beliefs, values, and motivations underlying a topic by making use of methods like interviews. The method to gather data for this thesis research was done through semi-structured interviews with 5 employees of the HR department, and 20 semi-structured interviews and survey with employees of the whole organization. The main findings of the research suggest that the HR department has good communication practices however, how communication is distributed needs to be revised for a more effective and receptive approach. Also, that employees working remotely from Setar N.V.’s main office building feel the loss of HR’s presence because of communication that is done through web-based channels.
