Abstract
This thesis sought to explore the willingness of organizations in Aruba to participate in an urban food sharing app. This urban food sharing app aims to minimize food waste and redistribute surplus food to communities in need in Aruba. The main research question
created was ‘To what extent can an urban food sharing app help to minimize food waste from hotels, restaurants and supermarkets to the benefit of society in the organizational perspective in Aruba?”. The main question was paired with three sub-questions to provide a better outlook into the possibilities of realizing an urban food sharing app in Aruba. This research was a qualitative research that made use of semi-structured interviews and a topic list with open questions depending on the type of respondent. The 14 research participants were chosen via purposive and convenience sampling that had requirements such as direct involvement in food and beverage organizations, experience with developing apps, food sharing and food donation organizations. The choice was made to do the data analysis manually. More specifically, a thematic analysis was done to identify emerging themes of the interviews and determine the organizational perspective of introducing an urban food sharing app. The findings of this research were that although food and beverage organizations are cautious and have their doubts, they appreciate the idea of an urban food sharing app and the majority are willing to participate or provide assistance.
