Abstract
This research aims to investigate if there is a relationship between the different leadership styles and good governance in the public sector of Aruba. The motivation for this study is to get a more in-depth understanding of the role of the applied leadership style in relation to the practice of good governance in the public sector of Aruba. At the same time this research pays attention to the role of individuals, managers, leaders in public management. This study utilized a purposive- and snowball sampling method to collect data. A total of 70 civil servants in the public sector of Aruba participated in this research. The findings suggest that participants have the perception that transformational leadership style is the most applied leadership style by managers in the public sector. The findings also showed a strong positive relationship between transactional-, transformational-, and servant leadership style and good governance. At the other hand, this research showed a negative correlation between laissez-faire leadership style and good governance. This study suggest that it is recommended that managers within these public organizations promote transformational leadership style programs and focus on this type of leadership style when recruiting managers in order to improve the overall level of good governance applied.
