Abstract
Work motivation and job satisfaction are well-known subjects of discussion in organizational management. Organizations in both the private sector and public sector are experiencing rapid organizational changes triggered by market demands, technologies and the effects of globalization. In order to cope with the ongoing changes in an effective manner, organizations may depend also on the quality of its human capital. Therefore, it is interesting to investigate how satisfied workers are, what leads to this satisfaction, if their personal goals have been realized and what more needs to be done to support them to further improve the overall effectiveness of the organization performance. Since this matter of human capital is very important to market. Therefore, it was decided to
investigate the relationship between work motivation and job satisfaction to determine to what extent work motivation affects job satisfaction. In view of that, the government department chosen is DEACI. The reason for choosing DEACI is based on their importance and their role in the economic development of the island. This department is a major player with respect to the socio-economic activities within the Aruban community. To support the problem statement of this research, a survey was developed. The survey was presented among the staff of the DEACI in two different languages. 85% of the twenty-seven (27) DEACI staff members participated in this survey. The results of the survey showed no significant differences between genders. The hypothesis formulated for this research is accepted, which indicate that there is a positive relation between job satisfaction and work motivation.
