Abstract
As Aruba continues to have demographic shifts, it is imperative for the only hospital on the island to manage ethnic diversity. The purpose of managing diversity is to have a workforce that is culturally competent. Having a culturally competent workforce is essential to provide service to the patients of the hospital. This thesis explores if there is an awareness regarding the concept of diversity. Furthermore it also explores if the Dr. Horacio E. Oduber Hospital is a multicultural organization. The main results indicate that the hospital is not managing diversity. Reliable care is depended on the professional aspect but also has to take into account the cultural and ethnic diversity of both the patient and the service provider. The hospital does not have all the components in place to be considered a multicultural organization.
