Abstract
The objective of this research is to investigate how the millennial generation views the current electoral voting system (EVS) and which characteristics they consider before deciding whom to vote for. The decision-making model used in this research is “The elaboration likelihood model”. This model explains that before casting a vote people go through two main routes: central route appeal (CRA) and the peripheral route appeal (PA). The level of involvement of the respondent will determine which route the respondent chooses. The main research question for this research is ‘How can Aruba’s electoral voting system be adapted to the voting needs of the millennial generation on Aruba?’ A quantitative research was held through an online self- administered questionnaire in order to collect data for this research. The data analysis was conducted through SPSS. The results of this research demonstrated that the respondents believe that both characteristics from the CRA and the PA are important when making the voting decision, however, characteristics from the CRA, such as political message and ideas, seem to be more important in comparison to characteristics of the PA. Furthermore, The current EVS should be changed either by implementing a new system or by adapting the current one by including digital voting, voting for Ministers and Parliament Members separately and by making the political candidates with the most votes a member of the Parliament to represent the publics opinion.
