Biography
Sue-Ann Lee is the Rector of the University of Aruba, where she lead with the belief that education is the most powerful tool to shape the future of our island and its people. Her journey through the tourism industry's private and public sectors has given her a strong foundation to bridge theory with practice and ensure that higher education remains relevant, applied, and impactful. As a leader, her vision is grounded in four pillars: advancing academic excellence and a strong research culture, fostering equity, inclusion, and belonging, driving sustainability and future relevance, and positioning Aruba for global leadership rooted in local culture. These principles guide how she work with students, faculty, and partners to create opportunities that prepare graduates to thrive globally and empower them to remain deeply connected to the heritage and identity of Aruba. She is passionate about the development of Aruba and the role of our island's future in shaping our tourism industry. Aruba’s global appeal should be laid in the foundation of research, innovation, and education as essential to informing decisions that safeguard the well-being of our community today and for generations to come, and here is where the University of Aruba can play a crucial role. She holds a Master of Science degree in Economics with a major in Business and specialization in Marketing and Management from the University of Groningen. Furthermore, she has over ten years of experience in the public and private sector working in roles such as consultant, manager, and advisor. She gathered her experience at different places such as Deloitte, Aruba Hotel and Tourism Association (AHATA), the Ministry of Tourism, and the Ministry of Tourism and Culture. She also worked as an entrepreneur in setting up her own consultancy business, working and advising on different projects in the field of business development, marketing, and reorganization. Education plays a pivotal role in shaping future professionals. As an academic lecturer since 2016 and previous dean (2022-2025) of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTMS) at the University of Aruba, her focus is on building strong connections between higher education and the hospitality and tourism sectors and Aruba's culture and heritage integration in our island's curriculum.
