Romano Morsen is born and raised in Suriname, has an educational background and 13 years of experience in (higher) education. In 2022 he started his career as senior educational specialist at the University of Aruba and since November 2023 he holds the position of Quality Assurance Manager at the University of Aruba. In this position he is responsible for the quality assurance of the institution, the faculties and the programs at the University of Aruba. Besides that, he is also in charge of the education policy of the university, faculties and programs as well as the professional development of the academic staff. He is the chair of the Interfaculty Quality Meeting and the Interfaculty Platform for Exam Committees at the University of Aruba and is a member of different other committees. Romano is also a part – time lecturer at the Faculty of Accounting, Finance and Marketing. Currently he is an external PhD Candidate at the Open University in the Netherlands. His research is about professional development of lecturers in the 21st Century where he aims to create more engaging lecturers within higher education in Suriname and the Dutch Caribbean. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Educational & Agogic Sciences and a Master of Science degree in Education and Research for Sustainable Development, both obtained at the Anton the Kom University of Suriname. He also holds the teaching certificate of the Teachers’ College in Suriname and the University Teaching Certificate of the Anton the Kom University of Suriname which makes him a first-degree lecturer in higher education. With his educational background and experience he held different positions as university lecturer, program manager, education manager, trainer and consultant within different higher education institutes and ministries in Suriname.
